Zooty Owl's Crafty Blog was one of those happy accidents. I was looking for something a little different to make for little boys. (its just harder to find interesting patterns for little boys) In my quest... and I do mean quest, for something out of the ordinary I ran across Zooty Owl. A blog written and maintained by Zelna Olivier.
Zooty Owl's home is Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. (A place close to my heart as I have friends who live there also) Zelna Olivier loves her work as much as I love mine and thus Zooty Owl was born out of a love for crafting, most specifically crochet. Much of which you can see on her Google plus page: https://plus.google.com/112917962620266649797/posts Like many other passionate fiber artists, I found Zelna's work on Ravelry. Prolific yes, but so gifted with color and shape to her crocheting that I couldn't help but spend hours scrolling through her page. When I asked if I might write about her in my blog she very graciously consented. You can see her Ravelry page here: http://www.ravelry.com/designers/zelna-olivier If you are like me you will not be able to take your eyes off of her beautiful designs. I was stuck in a bit of a rut, I will admit, however Zelna quickly got the creative juices flowing again. So talented! Now we come to the Zooty Owl blog. A spot where Zelna shares not only her crocheting but her heart. Beautiful poetry to go along with her amazing patterns, and delicious looking recipes. I was really just drawn in by the unique way Zelna draws her readers in with very unique patterns and gorgeous color. She has tutorials for those of us who are unfamiliar with a particular skill used in the FREE patterns she offers. Every pattern delivers color options, each as beautiful as the one before. Frankly I did not see any patterns I would not make for a loved on or friend. I am always trying to think outside the box when it comes to gifts and Zelna is delivers stunning pattern with a unique look. Those who live in South Africa you should know you have a real gem in Zelna Olivier!! http://zootyowlcards.blogspot.com/ I know most people feel that these blogs are mostly for women but Zelna Olivier adds many personal stories and useful recipes for easy biscuits and breads that would be nice for tea. Her personal touch to the blog and Google + page make anyone feel welcome. (she has a son of her own :) ) Zelna Olivier and I have much in common, wonderful husbands, 2 grown children, a love for fiber arts, a love for family history, poetry and gardening. Her blog made me feel as though I were reading letters from an old friend. I know you will feel the same and just to show you how much inspiration I gleaned I attached a picture of my latest afghan made from one of Zelna's beautiful patterns. (One thing I do enjoy is a good game of South African Rugby... one thing I do not often see living in the US :) )
